COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Retired international umpire Steve Horgan has been appointed as USA Field Hockey's FIH Rules Interpreter.

Horgan fills the spot previously held by current FIH umpire Gus Soteriades who stepped down from the position following his increasing responsibilities and involvement umpiring at the international level.

As Rules Interpreter, Horgan will provide guidance to USA Field Hockey umpires on FIH briefings, interpretations and experimental rules. He will also represent USA Field Hockey domestically at meetings of the NCAA, National Federation of State High School Associations and National Field Hockey Coaches Association Rules Committee.

A veteran of 84 international matches as an umpire, Horgan umpired two Olympic Games tournaments (1996, 2000) as well as two World Cups (1994, 1998) and three Pan American Games (1987, 1991, 1995) tournaments.
