USA Field Hockey, in an email dated December 11, 2007 -- apparently only sent to coaches and indoor event organizers -- announced that two experimental rules put forward by the Hockey Rules Board, will be used in the USA.

The experimental rules currently proposed by the Hockey Rules Board are: one player of the defense must always stay outside the half of the court that their team is defending and the attack, on attacking free pushes, must not push the ball directly into the circle. These rules are referred to in the USA as the indirect free push rule and the one player up rule.

More information about the rules involved and a feedback questionnaire is available on the FIH website (click here).
