Registration is now open for the HOW TO UMPIRE FIELD HOCKEY course taught by UmpireHockey.com publisher Cris Maloney at Mercer County Community College.

Maloney uses the FIH Level I Umpire course curriculum, NFHS rules book, professional photography, videos, his experience and his presentation skills to bring officiating to life in this unique classroom experience. Students from as far away as Maryland, Easton PA, and Bryn Mawr PA have taken Maloney's course.

Class dates are July 12, 15, 19 and 22. Class begins each evening at 6:00 p.m. The course number is XCP700. The fee is $40.00 plus about $30 for books.

Before the fall season begins, Maloney also presents a "Rules Update" session at MCCC. With the self-pass option and indirect circle entry requirement coming to games played between high schools this year, attendance is more important than ever (especially at a presentation from an experienced umpire who has been officiating games with this rule in upper level competitions for two years).

The Rules Update will take place on August 23rd at 7:00 p.m. The course number is XCP702. The course fee is $15.00.

[EDITOR'S NOTE: MCCC charges a registration fee of $10 to $15 (one time and then you can register for as many courses as you want). I'm not certain if that's one time annually or once in a lifetime. Ask when you register.]

The MCCC registration telephone number is (609) 570-3311.

Educators should ask about how to receive CEU (Continuing Education Unit) credit for the Course and the Rules Update. Together a full CEU can be earned.

On field coaching is also available.
