If you would like some great insight into all the rules governing field hockey and what's expected from the umpires, players, and coaches during the upcoming season, please tune in on your computer tonight to the 2011 National Rules Briefing on USAFieldHockey.com. It's a live webcast!

Steve Horgan, our nation's rules interpreter and umpire commissioner, will be giving a 60 to 90 minute presentation about the Rules of Hockey (the rules governing club play, USA Field Hockey events, and the Olympics), the NCAA modifications to the Rules of Hockey, and the NFHS rules governing games between high school teams.

During and at the end of the presentation, Steve will be answering questions too. If you or your player have any questions about the rules you can submit them now at...

Perhaps your question will be selected as one of those answered during the live broadcast.

Just as a summer's "required reading" list helps prepare students for the school year, serious field hockey players, coaches, and umpires consider briefings as "required viewing".

The pre-season/pre-tournament briefing is a fundamental part of getting everyone who is involved in the game---umpires, players, coaches, and fans---onto the same page. The briefing process helps to educate and eliminate confusion and misunderstandings.

After the live broadcast, segments from the briefing will be made available in a "view on demand" directory on USAFieldHockey.com.
